A shot was fired during a hold-up at Ta' Qali yesterday just before 11 a.m., the police said.

Cash and cheques, amounting to around €20,000, were stolen from three employees of the Malta Football Association in front of the National Stadium.

The three employees were in a car when they were stopped by a van which also carried three occupants, the police said.

Two of them, hooded and armed, made straight for the car, demanded money and snatched a bag from the car.

The police said a shot was allegedly fired by one of the robbers.

The three robbers sped off from the scene in the van which was later found abandoned.

Magistrate Michael Mallia is holding an inquiry.

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clyde Puli deplored the hold-up on MFA employees.

He appealed to whoever may have seen something to help the police in their investigations.

Mr Puli also expressed solidarity with MFA President Joe Mifsud and with those involved in the hold-up.
