Over 100 caravan owners were yesterday given 48 hours to remove their mobile homes from Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq where they had set up without a permit.

Officials from the Government Property Division (GPD) served the owners with notices requesting them to pack up and leave as they are not entitled to stay on that land.

Some of the caravans are surrounded by fixed structures without necessary permits, a GPD spokesman said. This is part of a GPD campaign to ensure that government property is not abused.

Last Sunday, officials from the GDP clamped down on businesses in Marsaxlokk for breaching their encroachment permits on pavements and promenades.

Assisted by the Marsaxlokk police, the enforcement action took place in Triq ix-Xatt and from Triq il-Wilġa to Triq il-Kunċizzjoni, against a number of business establishments which had all been served with letters of warning.
