In reply to Carmel J. Delia's letter (Alternative Accommodation, September 16), I can assure him that my father knew that the lease of the house was about to expire. My father visited the Housing Department on several occasions. Each time he was assured that he had nothing to worry about and the Housing Department convinced my father that no one could throw us out!

The house was requisitioned, and again the department assured my father that he did not have to look for alternative accommodation. The owner of the house never asked for any increase in rent, his main interest was to evict us.

Suddenly we received a de-requisition order.

It was a direct order from the Minister of Housing to throw my family out of the house.

As Mr Delia well remembers, if he was living in Malta in 1975, an order from the Minister bypasses a court's decison. My mother was devastated, her poor heart could not sustain such a trauma, and she passed away on the day of the eviction.

Since we moved out, the house has never been lived in up till this very day. Now will the Mintoffjani take this letter as anti- Mintoff slur?

One last thing. I am not after a slice of Dom Mintoff's money, I never said I am. That, to me, is cursed money. End of story.
