Maltese shooters left their mark on the Commonwealth European Shooting Championships in Gibraltar, winning no fewer than five medals.

It was a case of double delight for Clive Farrugia who ended the final day of the championships with two gold medals. Farrugia hit 113 of his 125 qualification shots to lead the skeet field going into the barrage. In the final, Farrugia scored 22 points to secure the gold medal. Darren Vella took bronze.

Earlier in the day, Farrugia and Vella struck gold in the skeet pairs. The competition was held in adverse weather conditions but the Maltese duo kept their focus to achieve a winning total of 200 points.

Malta's other medals in these championships came from Ray Cacciattolo, who claimed bronze in the 10m air pistol event, and William Vella and Lawrence Darmanin who collected a silver medal in the 10m air rifle pairs competition.

In a statement, the Malta Shooting Sport Federation (MSSF) expressed its delight at the excellent results obtained by its members in Gibraltar. The MSSF also noted that Farrugia and Vella competed in the seniors' category despite still being juniors.
