Superstar deejay Eric Prydz promised to come to Malta by catamaran in February to give a free performance and make up for not showing at his own event earlier this month.

Mr Prydz was due to perform a live set at Gianpula on September 6 but, as he was about to board his plane from Milan, the medication he usually takes to tackle his well-known fear of flying did not work and he suffered a panic attack.

The event, organised by Ice Music Medium in collaboration with Ministry of Sound, was attended by about 2,200 people who had paid between €10 and €20 to see the famous house deejay perform a live set.

Ice Music is now in the process of finalising a deal with Mr Prydz's management, which would ensure the deejay's travel-related fears do not take over in the last minute.

"I'm ready to travel to the UK, drive him down to the south of Italy and catch the catamaran with him to make sure he comes over this time," a spokesman for Ice Music said.

Mr Prydz is also afraid of travelling by boat due to a bad experience he endured when travelling to Mykonos in August but his management is determined to bring him to Malta and has promised Ice Music that Mr Prydz will not back out this time round.

The day after the no-show event, Mr Prydz's management returned their £25,000 fee and suggested this went to a local charity. However, after weeks of discussions, it was decided that the money will be returned to the deejay's management as payment for next year's party, which is earmarked for February 13 and expected to draw a crowd of about 5,000 clubbers.

Ice Music will also hold an additional free party in November with another top international deejay, Mark Knight.

Mark Grima, who runs Ice Music, said free invites to both parties will be given out through the same channels where the Eric Prydz tickets were sold.

"Our runners will make sure they go back to the people they sold tickets to and give them the free invites first," he said.

Mr Grima hopes that in this way, those who had bought a ticket to watch Mr Prydz will be the first to get their hands on the free invites while others can also take advantage of the free parties.
