The AFM will hold its popular Open Day on October 5 at Luqa Barracks.
Capt Mark Mallia, the officer in charge of ceremonial and protocol, said the all-day event will highlight the varied work performed by the various sections of the AFM. There will also be special emphasis on the work of the Italian Military Mission in Malta since the mission is this year celebrating its 35th anniversary. General Vincenzo Camporini, Chief of Staff of the Italian Armed Forces, will be in Malta for the event.
The Open Day will feature static displays of military equipment and performances by the AFM band, the bomb disposal unit and the Air Wing, which will carry out a rescue simulation.
Those aged over 16 will be able to try their hand on the shooting range. Other attractions include an assault course and a rock climbing wall.
A blood bank will also be available at the medical centre for those who wish to donate blood and an art exhibition by former commanders and active soldiers will be set up for the first time.
The Malta Command group of World War 2 re-enactors will perform gun-drills using a Bofors 40/60 and on an AFM 25-pounder saluting gunThere will be a defile` of vintage military vehicles.
The day will come to a close with a one-hour seated concert featuring Italian pieces, such as Nabucco and Bolero to coincide with IMM’s anniversary.
Events start at 10 a.m and continue to late afternoon.
