The Gibraltar Shooting Federation is currently hosting the Commonwealth Shooting Federation European Division championships.
The Commonwealths shoot, which comes to a close today, is held every two years in different countries on the continent, the previous one being held in Jersey in 2006.
Organisers reported an encouraging response to the competition and reported the biggest turn-out for the past 15 years or so. In fact, over 140 shooters, representing Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Malta, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Gibraltar, are taking part.
Among them are former Commonwealth Games medallists, giving the upcoming competitors a chance to sharpen their skills and garner more experience on the international scene.
The championships, for teams and individuals, consist of competitions in various disciplines such as Air Rifle, Pistol and Clay.
The Malta Shooting Sport Federation is being represented by Clive Farrugia and Darren Vella (skeet), Jason J. Aquilina and Joe Cutajar (trap) and 10M Air Rifle shooters William Vella, Lawrence Darmanin and Charlot Chircop.
MSSF official Grezzju Agius is leading the Maltese contingent in Gibraltar.
William Vella and Darmanin started their commitments on a sound footing after obtaining a creditable second place in the 10M Air Rifle Pairs competition on Friday.
