AD calls for alternative energy incentives

Alternattiva Demokratika has welcomed last week's report from the United Nations Environment Programme, which concludes that millions of jobs could be created worldwide in the next few decades by investment in alternative energy.

Ralph Cassar, AD spokesperson for energy, industry and transport, said that the European Green Party has consistently argued that the EU must grasp the opportunity for sustainable economic development. Mr Cassar points out that more energy efficient buildings in Malta would lead to much needed cuts in the cost of heating and air conditioning.

AD proposed that the next budget includes programmes to incentivise alternative energy technologies, including programmes to help families generate their own clean electricity.

Alternattiva reiterated its call for the introduction of a surcharge or energy pricing mechanism to ensure that basic energy needs are affordable and those who use energy wisely are rewarded.
