The members of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise and the Malta Federation of Industry have approved the merger between the two organisations following extraordinary general meetings by the two organisations earlier this week.

Chamber President Tancred Tabone said at a press conference today that this was a landmark decision and the councils of both organizations were pleased with the result that they had been working towards for the last two years.

“This is truly history in the making for private enterprise representation in Malta," Mr Tabone said.

He added that although there were various questions as to how the merged organisation would affect the interests of particular members and sectoral interests, overall, the debate at the two EGMs was very positive.

FOI President Martin Galea also expressed his satisfaction at the result. He said the next three months would be eventful and crucial as it was a period required by law, in which all the necessary groundwork must be brought together - behind the scenes – so that when the official merge occurs, they could be be in a position to hit the ground running.
