Two treaties, one on “Mutual Legal Assistance” and the other on “Cooperation in the Fight against Organised Crime” are to be signed between Malta and China in the coming days.
Extensive consultations on these treaties were held recently in Bejing between the permanent secretary of the Home Affairs and Justice Ministry, Charles Deguara, and Attorney General Silvio Camilleri and officials from China’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Public Security Bureau. During negotiations the delegation was accompanied by the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Karl Xuereb.
Mr Deguara stated that the signing of these treaties was fundamental in the fight against international organised crime and showed Malta’s and China’s commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation in such an important area.
Negotiations on other treaties which fall within the portfolio of the MJHA are also envisaged.
