Birkirkara man denies stealing air conditioners

Somali admits damaging office at open centre

A 25-year-old from Birkirkara, Marlon Camilleri, was remanded in custody today after he pleaded not guilty to stealing over €58,000 worth of air conditioners from a warehouse in Mriehel.

He also denied relapsing and committing the alleged crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence.

In a separate case, two 19-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy denied conspiring to commit theft from Palm Court Hotel in St Paul's Bay.

The 16-year-old and Ritmark Borg, 19, of Paola, denied stealing cash from one of the guest rooms along with a cell phone a wrist watch and two portable DVD players, while Josua Gatt, 19, of Tarxien, denied being an accomplice and stealing from a number of guest rooms.

In a third case, a Somali man was jailed for a year after admitting to having caused more than €1,100 in damages and stealing a mobile phone from an office at the open centre at Hal Far.

Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana told the court that the accused had also thrown the office computer out of the window and smashed a photocopier.
