I fully concur with the contents of the letter by Josie Muscat (Time And Patience Are Running Out, September 19) on the subject of illegal immigration. It was very concise, realistic and to the point. Very few, if any, of the other local politicians seem to bother and want to get involved in the issue - I guess it's not vote catching.
On the other hand, I was also glad to read the front page report of the same paper wherein it was stated that the Maltese government was standing firm on its stance regarding burden sharing - Hobson's choice for us, being the most densely populated micro state in Europe.
For obvious reasons we cannot afford to let happen here what we have witnessed happening in mainland Europe. All we had so far, however, is even more back patting and even broader smiles, this time round, coming from Silvio Berlusconi. The outcome of all this will either make or break our future and that of our children. Let us not let them down.
We must use all the legitimate means to make our counterparts come to their senses. Time is definitely not on Malta's side, and running out very fast!
