Noise pollution is a serious health hazard.
The authorisation for unlimited quantity, quality and extended time of day for setting off fireworks is a case in point. Other examples include noisy construction work on Sundays and public holidays and the widespread practice of insensitive motorists who modify their vehicles' exhaust systems to accentuate the noise in breach of the relevant motor vehicle regulations with impunity.
The police authorities' and the Malta Transport Authority's silence regarding enforcement against noise pollution is deafening.
