Statue of St Roque
A life-size franka stone statue of the saint is located at the corners of Triq Sant' Ursula with Triq San Kristofru on the same side as the church dedicated to St Roque.
The saint is portrayed with the right hand holding a staff across his chest, right leg jutting forward and exposed from under the tunic and outstretched left hand with head turned upwards to heaven. A dog with a bun in its mouth and looking up at the saint is to the saint's left The statue is standing on a pedestal which has an escutcheon at the front with a Latin devotional inscription. It is mounted on a flared and panelled conical column which is supported by the corner's baseboard. There is a single metal light fitting at front and another wrought iron ornament around the base of the statue.
This statue is one of the best examples of Baroque corner statues in Valletta.
Mepa scheduled the Statue of St. Roque as a Grade 1 national monument as per Government Notice No. 276/08 in the Government Gazette dated March 28.
