Sky's the limit in St Paul's Bay this weekend

Participants at the Malta International Air Show will grace the skies this weekend and delight aircraft enthusiasts with their static and flight displays.

The planes will be on show on the airport tarmac but, as last year, the flying will take place over St Paul's Bay, once again featuring the Red Arrows, which have not been to the island since 2005.

This year's main attraction is the Royal Air Force's Typhoon, two of which will land in Luqa tomorrow. The military jets will arrive from Akrotiri, in Cyprus, stopping here to refuel before flying on to Barcelona. One will be on exhibit at the airport's park four and the other will be in the flying display on Saturday. This is the second time the typhoon will be participating in an air show.

Apart from Malta, six countries will be taking part including Italy, Germany, Ireland, the UK, the US and Sweden.

The Armed Forces of Malta will exhibit their Britten Norman Islander, an Alouette helicopter and a Bulldog spotter plane while Maltese and Italian pilots will be flying an Agusta Bell helicopter of the Italian Military Mission.

But the show is not just about military aircraft. The Italian Civil Protection Agency will be taking part and Maltese enthusiasts will be flying microlights.

The RAF's Red Arrows will be back to put on another aerial spectacle. On Saturday they will close the display over St Paul's Bay at 4.30 p.m. while on Sunday they will kick off the show at 2 p.m.

Park four will be open to the public between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for the static display while the flying over St Paul's Bay will be held between 2 and 4.30 p.m. on both days.

Entrance to the park costs €5 while children enter for free. Tickets will only be available at the gate.
