Lija local council has done a good job in retaining height restrictions on properties in Transfiguration Avenue. Our village core has narrow streets that meander through the various properties, with typical stone balconies and embellished windows.
One of the biggest problems residents face is the lack of enforcement of various motorists who do not seem to care about observing restrictions on the size of their vehicles that regularly pass through the village. Trucks, skips, concrete mixers, water bowsers and deliverymen use Lija as a "shortcut" to get to other destinations rather than to render a service to the village. Apart from the obvious (noise and emissions) pollution they cause, they constantly damage the façades of properties as they go by.
This photo shows the damage done to my daughter's property the other morning. Her residence has been repeatedly hit, along with other neighbouring properties. Like all other Lija residents, I expect the law to be enforced and for the council to put the same enthusiasm that it put in tackling height restrictions in Transfiguration Avenue to enforcing this problem.
More vigorous law enforcement by stationing wardens in these streets could put a stop to this gross flouting of the law.
