The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin yesterday met the directors of Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre over the future of the company's employees, which remains unclear.

MFCC, from which five board members have resigned, is facing the possibility of liquidation. The UĦM has directed workers to strike in light of the uncertainty.

During a conciliation meeting, Reuben Caruana, who owns 25 per cent of MFCC, explained the precarious situation, saying that the offer he made to buy out the other 75 per cent of the shareholders had been rejected. He said he could not guarantee the employees' wages due to a number of problems, among them court proceedings.

The UĦM has therefore asked Mr Caruana to continue to try to reach an agreement with the other shareholders in the interest of the employees and urged the employees not to work until the company makes its official position clear.
