Labour spokesman on planning Roderick Galdes has appealed to the University of Malta and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) to have a rethink about the old features on campus which are currently being pulled down because they are said to be dangerous.
The architectural features being demolished were built between 1963 and 1970 and were designed by Norman and Dawburn.
Moreover, the removal of a sun screen forming part of the external walls of the library building was not covered by a Mepa permit, Mr Galdes claimed.
Although it is being said that the screen is dangerous, the university took steps 13 years ago to render it safe, he added.
He appealed to the university and to Mepa to understand the importance of the old part of the university building and do all they can to protect it.
