The foundation stone of a private industrial zone for over 70 SMEs was laid this morning by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech at Ta’Maggi near Zabbar.
The zone will cover 10,000 square metres and incorporate 78 workshops.
Mr Fenech said the government was in the process of seeking development permission for two, government-run, industrial zones, at Mellieha and Xewkija.
He praised the investors for their entrepreneurship and said the government and the private sector should cooperate further for the creation of more jobs in SMEs.

Mr Fenech said that one of the first initiatives taken by the present government was the setting up of a Micro Businesses Support Unit to offer assistance to businesses employing less than 10 people. This unit had just introduced a 24-hour freefone service where one would be able to record any complaint or difficulty. The number 80072215.
