Reading Mark Gauci's letter Foreign Birdwatchers' Forthcoming Visit (September 17), making reference to FKNK's press release, reminded me of watching the secretary of FKNK, Lino Farrugia reading the said press release on a local TV station.
Now I presume that this Mr Farrugia is the same person who, earlier this month, was fined by the law courts after being found guilty of instigating a man to illegally trap golden plovers on the morning of November 27, 2006 and also of disobeying police orders.
What puzzles me is the fact that, in the face of criticism, FKNK always boasts that they suspend or expel members who are found guilty of breaking environmental laws. So how come Mr Farrugia, as secretary of the said federation, was neither suspended nor expelled from FKNK but was even allowed to preside over a televised press conference? Makes you wonder! Is it perhaps a case of the hunters' and trappers' federation adopting a two-weights-and-two-measures attitude with some of its own members?
