The Johnnie Walker Man of the Year award is being held in Malta for the first time.

The award seeks to reward the achievements of Maltese men whose personal progress mirrors that of the brand's adage 'Keep walking'.

The criteria for choosing the nominees is based on the core brand essence of Johnnie Walker - a life of continuous personal progress and achievement.

The judging panel has short-listed 12 individuals: director Mario Philip Azzopardi, artist Luciano Micallef, writer Trevor Zahra, sailor Chris Dougall, athlete Nicky Farrugia, footballer Michael Mifsud, 6pm company director Ivan Bartolo, Magro Brothers Group managing director John Magro, EC English Language Schools CEO Andrew Mangion, Judge Giovanni Bonello, creator of lateral thinking Edward de Bono, and Razzett tal-Ħbiberija CEO Nathan Farrugia.

The winner of the award will be announced at a gala event next month.
