Graduate in geology and geophysics

Aaron Micallef recently graduated from the University of Southampton, UK, with a Ph.D. in marine geology and geophysics.

His project Failure processes in submarine landslides: A geomorphological approach, involved the development of GIS-based techniques for the quantitative analysis of marine geophysical data.

These techniques were applied in the Storegga Slide, the largest known submarine landslide in the world, to improve the understanding of the mechanics and evolution of submarine slope instability processes.

Dr Micallef is currently carrying out voluntary work with the Haller Foundation in Mombasa, Kenya, where he is helping local communities increase agricultural productivity in an environmentally sustainable way through the use of soil erosion control and rainwater harvesting techniques.
