The Church's Commission for Pastoral Activities Among Workers has welcomed the General Workers' Union's proposals on migrant workers.

Among the proposals contained in a policy paper, the GWU had called for a crackdown on illegal employment, an action plan to tackle racism and ensure rights of migrant workers are respected, and a public awareness campaign to highlight the advantage of integrating such workers in Maltese society.

The commission said that the Church was pleased when more organisations joined in the effort to ensure that the dignity of all was respected, irrespective of race, colour, or creed, including in the area of employment.
