Comenius project's lasting legacy

The final meeting of the three-year Comenius school development project entitled 'Quality Assurance through a Synergy of Assessment and Evaluation' was held in Malta.

The meeting was attended by 18 heads of schools and teachers from Belgium, Italy, Norway, Poland and Malta.

It consisted of discussions and Powerpoint presentations on the work achieved during the last three years on the setting of assessment policies in the schools with an emphasis on more transparency in recording systems, and ideas for follow-up after the project ends.

All pupils at San Ġwann Primary School B within St Clare's College have benefited over the past three years for the project's lasting legacy - the Record of Achievement booklet. This comprises examination results, an overall review of the student's performance throughout the year and comments by the pupils, the parents, the class teacher, the Learning Support Assistant (where applicable) and the school head.

It is a comprehensive annual overview of the pupil depicting a wide spectrum of the child's a bilities with space for pupils to pin-point their strengths and weaknesses.

The booklet is handed to parents mid-yearly and at the end of the year and very positive feedback has reached the school from parents and the pupils.

This project has been instrumental for the heads and teachers of the participating schools to discuss common topics and come up with concrete work from which the pupils have benefited.
