Two motorcyclists in critical condition

Two men are in a critical condition following a traffic accident in Mdina Road, Żebbuġ late Thursday evening, the police said yesterday.

A 28-year-old from Tarxien and 32-year-old from Żurrieq were involved in a collision between the two motorcycles they were riding and a car being driven by a 19-year-old youth from Luqa.

Police sources said a policeman on his way to report for duty witnessed the accident and assisted one of the drivers who was dangerously close to a burning motorcycle.

The Civil Protection Department was subsequently alerted and extinguished the flames.

The car driver emerged unscathed, the police said.
