A fountain was among a number of objects confiscated by officials from the Government Property Division yesterday evening during enforcement action against encroachment permit abuse by restaurants in Marsaxlokk.

A spokesman for the Lands parliamentary secretariat said that two establishments in particular had ignored a notice to respect their permits more than three weeks ago.

A total of 13 tables, 52 chairs, plants and other street furniture, including the fountain, were confiscated.

The officials also served formal notices to another 12 restaurants warning them to respect their permit conditions about placing tables and chairs outside.

The department has over the past few weeks carried out such law enforcement in Sliema, Marsalforn, Xlendi and Marsascala, among other localities.

Action will continue, the spokesman said.
