A patrol boat and a rescue launch this morning assisted a Maltese-registered fishing boat which suddenly started taking in water.

The boat was six nautical miles off Marsaxlokk harbour when it made the call for assistance just before 2 a.m..

The boat, Nanna Grez, belonged to Azzopardi Fisheries and had a four-man crew - three Egyptians and a Ghanian.

Assistance was given by Patrol Boat P24 and rescue launch Melita-1, which escorted the fishing boat to harbour.
