Six people were killed and two wounded in southern Italy yesterday in a shootout which police said they suspected was linked to drugs trafficking, Italian television reported.

All those killed were foreigners, probably Nigerians, RAI television's televideo service said.

Around 100 shots were fired in a restaurant near the town of Caserta, in the Campania region, which is home to the Camorra organised crime group.

In a separate incident in the same region earlier in the day, the owner of a videogame arcade was shot dead by one or two killers on a motorbike, Italian agencies reported. They said the police did not believe the two incidents were linked.
