Responsible dog owners (1)
It is evident that Frans H. Said (September 9) is neither a dog owner nor a pet lover. How did he come to the conclusion that all dog owners are arrogant? Since there is the human element involved I admit that there are irresponsible dog owners but there are also responsible dog owners. Just like there are good doctors and bad doctors, good bus drivers and bad bus drivers.
However, I assure Mr Said that those responsible outnumber the irresponsible by a large number.
Then comes his statement that dogs are by nature aggressive animals. Again, the breeds of friendly dogs by far outnumber the aggressive type.
I assure Mr Said that the great majority of dogs are so friendly that they cuddle up even after they are scolded.
However, I am glad that he agrees with me that the St Paul's Bay council is "dumb". You have to be after about six e-mails, three letters and two comments in these columns. In fact, I am still awaiting a reply to my letters. They cannot state that they are not aware of the fact that one of their notices that says that dogs should be held on a lead and their fouling cleaned is superimposed by the words "Pets are not Allowed". Finally, Mr Said, your remark that we should pity the new mayor because she is still young and just out of University is simply out of order and deserves no further comments.

Mr Albert Spiteri : Equally irritating are noisy, rude and ucontrollable humans. Where I live, I have to put up with human noise day and night : A DIY freak as a next door neighbour, who hammers away mostly between 2pm and 4pm, screaming kids, mobile discos and so on and so forth. So please lets be tolerant with eachother shall we? And that includes our animals.

I was for many years a dog owner. I was also a bird owner. I love animals just as much as anyone around. However, I have to admit that most dog owners I have met in my life are arrogant and irresponsible. I agree with Mr. Frans H. Said, and totally disagree with Mr. Edwin Gruppetta. Most dog owners simply do not give a hoot about cleaning up when their untrained pets mess up on sidewalks, in public gardens and also inside people's private car drives. Also, most dog owners simply do not give a fig over people's right for peace and quite and loss of sleep during the night because of their untrained animals simply cannot be restrained from the hellish barking during most of the night. I believe that people who are not capable of training dogs to adapt to human environment should not be allowed to keep dogs. The police should take relative laws more seriously and go down heavy on those dog-owners, who simply cannot, or rather will not, learn how to keep and train a dog.
