The Pembroke Athleta U-16 team recently travelled to Roccalumera in Sicily to take part in a quadrangular tournament.
The initiative was made possible through the twinning agreement that exists between the Pembroke Local Council and their Sicilian counterparts. The U-16 squad were chosen for this trip following their excellent performances last season where they won promotion to Section B.
The Maltese team won the tournament with three wins and just one defeat. In the final Pembroke beat Nizza di Sicilia 2-1.
It is planned that next year's edition of the tournament will be held at the Pembroke Athleta Football Nursery grounds.
During their stay in Sicily, the Pembroke squad visited several places of interest including Messina, Roccalumera, Taormina and the small village of Mandanici which is situated just outside Roccalumera.
