Qormi is trumpeting its reputation as the “capital of Maltese bread-making” with a Bread Festival which reaches its climax tomorrow.

The bread-making tradition in Qormi goes back hundreds of years – which is why it was known as Casal Fornaro. The town is today still home to some 70 bakeries.

The festival focuses on the history and methods of baking bread, bread in Maltese culture and also the different forms of bread across the Mediterranean. The festival centres on a well-researched exhibition, while various stalls will be set up near St Sebastian Church in the evening tomorrow, serving different types of bread and other traditional Maltese food. There will also be entertainment. (See video above).
