A Gambian national was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to importing just under half a kilogram of cocaine when he arrived on a flight from Barcelona on Thursday morning.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard Touray Sana, 29, deny conspiring to import, importing and possessing the drug in circumstances denoting it was not for his exclusive use. After taking into consideration the large amount of drugs found, the court remanded Mr Sana in custody.

Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil appeared as legal aid to Mr Sana.
