'The veritable invasion of Malta by Africans, mostly Muslims, continues daily.

Several people are asking why Parliament is not recalled for a day from its two months holiday to declare a state of emergency giving it powers to take action unilaterally as both the EU and the UN are not helping Malta except by broken promises.

Italy has declared an emergency because 10,000 landed on its shores while Malta is not a large country but a tiny over-populated island with 1,800 arrivals has done practically nothing.

Our ministers should talk to Dr Maroni of Italy who stated that, once the protocol between Libya and Italy is signed, joint patrols will ensue to stop these immigrants on the sea border.

Why has Malta been left alone? The Maltese are fed up having to pay millions of euros to keep these adventurers: To feed them, give them pocket money and free medicine.

Burden sharing is a non-starter as most countries want to get rid of immigrants and not take the thousands from Malta. Moreover, if these people know that by coming to Malta they will get into the EU, we will be flooded with more immigrants.

I am amazed that Italy which has a big navy does not send frigates to stop these boat people. This is being done by the navy in Australia which is a large continent and not a tiny overpopulated island like Malta.

As member of the Partnership for Peace, Malta should request a helicopter frigate to stop this invasion by these boat people who land everywhere with impunity.

Lastly, a Maltese passport valid for three months should be given to these immigrants failing which, if they do not leave, they should be kept in detention for good.
