A Libyan national was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to stealing various items on three separate occasions between May and this month.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman heard Jamal Muftah Salem Belkheir, 35, deny stealing a digital camera from a Russian woman, a handbag from a woman in Sliema and other items from unknown persons.He also pleaded not guilty to committing a crime within the period of a suspended sentence, handling stolen property and relapsing.

Police Inspectors Keith Arnaud and James Grech prosecuted.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared as legal aid to Mr Belkheir.
