The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and the Labour Party agree that tourism should not be a "football of partisan politics", the MLP spokesman for the industry, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, said yesterday.

Malta was failing in areas like the environment and competitiveness when compared to other main tourist destinations, she pointed out following a meeting with the MHRA.

International indicators ought to be taken seriously and should be a stimulus for the government to address these problems immediately.

The MLP will be striving to strengthen tourism even from the opposition to help those who are investing and working in the industry, Ms Coleiro Preca said.
