A 21-year-old man was this morning charged with 17 thefts and four attempted thefts from houses and commercial premises between July and August.

The man, whose name cannot be published by court order, admitted to stealing cash, lap tops and other items such as electronic equipment from the establishments.

He was remanded in custody. Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera upheld a request for the prison authorities to address his drug problem while in custody.

The ban on his name was agreed between the defence and the prosecution because he is helping the police with their investigations.
