Eight arrested over drugs as police raid houses, nightclubs

The Drug Squad arrested eight individuals in a number of operations over the weekend and yesterday.

Two brothers, aged 17 and 32, were arrested in Naxxar after a search of their home yielded cocaine, heroin and cannabis on Saturday. The police had been tipped off that drug trafficking was taking place from the house.

Later that day, two men, aged 37 and 25 from Mosta and Marsascala respectively, were held following a search at an entertainment outlet in Żebbuġ. They were found to be in possession of cocaine, the police said.

Between Sunday night and yesterday morning, a 16-year-old boy from Lija, a 27-year-old woman from Żebbuġ and an 18-year-old woman from Marsascala were arrested following another search in a place of entertainment in Rabat. The ecstasy found in their possession was ready to be sold, the police said.

A raid on a house in Iklin also yielded ecstasy and items related to cocaine trafficking, and one arrest.

The suspects are to be arraigned in the coming days.
