Both hotels will form part of a major resort destination to be known as the Corinthia Beach Resort.

The management agreement was signed by Paul Pisani, Vice-President -Development of CHI and H Mansouri, Chairman and CEO of the owning company Cyrene Tourism Investment Corporation of Egypt.

Mr Mansouri, said CHI Hotels’ worldwide experience and excellent reputation as a multi-brand hotel operator had long preceded it in this part of the world, giving the Cyrene Group the necessary confidence to entrust its multi-million dollar project to a very safe pair of hands, with a proven international track record.

Actually it is not how much your income per month /year is. It’s what you can buy with what you get. I have just returned from Libya, guess how much I spent of fuel in a period of 13 days? Less than 5 EUROS, I assure you, the car we were using spent about 10-15 hours on roads. With about 25-30 Euros, we (3 people) bought 2 weeks supply of bread vegetables, fruits, milk...etc. ….honestly, I consider to go and live there

@Victor Vella: for your info, what the minister meant about attracting the 5 star tourist is that the government will aim at giving a 5 star product such as our islands, services, transport, Information technology, people, roaming telephony, environment, health services, etc, which in the end will raise standards for us Maltese. However some clueless people like yourself think that the product is just 5 star hotels.
Brand Malta was the start of the 5 star campaign but, as usual, some ignorant Maltese could not understand the whole point because 'il-partit tal-le' spoilt the Brand Malta image from day one.
The 5 star tourist was what everyone was asking for, even the MLP mentioned it in their last electoral campaign. So what on earth were you thinking? That the minister was going to stop licensing hotels below 5 star?

And what slump in tourism are you talking about? Earth calling Mars...hello?!? Do you know that last year we reached a new record of tourist arrivals, with this year being similar? Are you ok? Do you watch the news? Or are you so politically blinded that you cant possibly see eye to eye with success we are achieving?

I paid 20 euros for an ice cream and 2 cocktails in Birgu!!! too much. Dont tell me about our competition, they wanna work, they wanna grow, it is us that will remain last, businessman in Malta want to work little and earn loads. Service is something our tourists can only dream of.

@EGatt - Did I write that it was expensive or cheaper? I just wrote facts for others to compare with other localities and possibly the mediterranean area. A quick search on the internet would give you a guideline and please next time do not jump to conclusions.

I cannot imagine anyone complaining that when buying a beer /softdrink from a stall on a public holiday (and not from a supermarket) it cost him € 1.50!!!!!! If you consider that as expensive, stay at home and drink water (though with the surcharge and everything I don't know how cheaper that would be!!)

Yesterday in Sengela a beer/soft drink cost 1.50 Euros each. A small popcorn 1Euro, a small carton of chips 1.50Euros. No further comments

Mr Zammit Have you noticed that in Malta the available beds are simplt too much, have you noticed that a 5 star hotel in Tunisia or Egypr costs you half as much as one in Malta to stay in , this is all the fault of when a certain minister of tourism wanted to have 5 star tourists only.We simply cannot compete with these countries where a tourist can get a 1 litre of pure fruit juice freshly pressed for 1 USD where a taxi ride of about 20 Km costs you about 3 USD A hotel receptionist in Tunisia who works 12 hours a day 6 days a week gets approximately Lm 300 a month, Now Libya is opening up as well, do you know what a libyan gets for slogging 12 to 14 hours a day? pittance plus a bowl of soup I am not saying this is right but thats our competition. Also note that many catering establishments in Malta are one of the casues for the slump in tourism, they simply skin the tourist alive.Further more the many tourists coming over now are simply a number as they fly in low cost and havent got the money

.......and in Malta we are demolishing hotels to build flats. North African countries are investing wisely in tourism. Are peoples aware of the tourism boom about to happen in Libya?
