Obituary
CARDONA. On September 7, FRANCE, of Ħamrun, ex-chargeman at Malta Drydocks, joined his daughter Myriam in eternal life. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife Ines, his children Rosalie Azzopardi, Pauline and her husband Victor Agius, Jesmond and his wife Sandra, Roger Micallef widower of his daughter Myriam, his grandchildren Hertha and her husband Stefan Trapani, Chris and his wife Dulcie, Ramon and his fiancée Kathleen, Diane and Ryan, his sister Tessie, his brothers Giovanni and Salvinu, his sisters-in-law, their families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.45 a.m. for St Francis church in Ħamrun where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.15 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.
VASWANI. On September 7, at Mater Dei Hospital, LEL née Mahtani, aged 72, of Gżira, peacefully went to meet the Risen Lord. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Henry, her daughters Suzie and her husband Deepak, Patricia and her husband Ishwar, her son Andrew and his wife Alison, her grandchildren Rishi, Krish, Anushka and Dinesh, other relatives and many friends. The funeral leaves her residence tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. followed by private service and interment at Ta' Braxia Cemetery, Pietà. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. The family would like to thank the staff at the ITU Department at Mater Dei Hospital for their constant care and support. Hari om satnam.

Art competition
The Italian Embassy, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, the Italo-Maltese Chamber of Commerce and Alitalia, will be holding a pictorial competition to celebrate the eighth edition of The Week Of The Italian Language that will take place in October.
The competition is open to Maltese artists and is dedicated to the theme L'Italiano in Piazza (Italian in the Square).
Any Maltese artist over the age of 21 is eligible to take part in the competition.
Last year's competition, dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi, saw 83 art works by 66 Maltese artists being displayed at the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta.
Works of art are to be presented to the Italian Cultural Institute, Vecchia Cancelleria, St George's Square, Valletta, up to Friday. An exhibition on suitable works will be inaugurated on October 3 and will remain open to October 25.
The author of the "most deserving work" will be awarded two Alitalia return air tickets to Rome and accommodation in a private country house.

Celebrating youths in society
Malta will join the rest of the EU for the first time in organising the European Youth Week - an activity which celebrates the participation of youths in society.
Events to be held in Valletta between November 2 and 9 will include cultural activities, artistic exhibitions, musical concerts, discussions and sports.
The activities, which will be organised by young people, will be co-financed by the European Commission.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clyde Puli said that 100 young people have already confirmed their participation. He urged others to call 2148 5100 if they are interested in helping out.
Golden graduates
The University of Malta will be marking the 50th anniversary of the graduation of a number of students.
The event will be held on November 8 and includes a ceremony and concelebrated Mass at the University church in Merchants Valletta, followed by a courtesy visit to the President of Malta at The Palace, Valletta.
A dinner will be held later.

De Foucauld's 150th birthday
The Fraternities of Charles De Foucauld are celebrating Charles De Foucauld's 150th birthday. Archbishop Paul Cremona will be presiding over a concelebrated Mass at Poor Clare's Monastery, Regional Road, St Julians on September 17 at 6.30 p.m.
Winners of boating holiday
Carina Vassallo, Ryan Lanzon and P.J. Xerxen are the winners of a week-long boating holiday in the Mediterranean.
The winners had posed for a photo in Head & Shoulders booths on beaches last month. The photos were posted on a website.
Epilepsy Association meeting
The Caritas Malta Epilepsy Association will be holding its bi-monthly meeting on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Caritas Building, 5 Lion Street, Floriana.
