MLP appoints commission to oversee internal changes
Labour leader Joseph Muscat has set up a commission formed of MEP Louis Grech and former Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella to coordinate changes to the MLP’s structures and operating procedures.
The party said the commission’s work would go beyond the amendments to the party statute, which are currently under discussion.
The commission will consider the reports drawn up in the wake of the general election defeats of 2003 and 2008 and coordinate changes in the party structures to ensure that the various sections of the party function more efficiently.
The commission will report directly to Dr Muscat and has been asked to complete its work by year’s end.

@ Charles J Buttigieg.
Of course, 'Whatever will be the result of the restructure exercise it would not be finalised before it gets the approval of the party delegates."!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rest my case.

You have every right to think that the MLP is not changing, but I think it's only wishful thinking. A change in leadership brings about inevitable change whatever you or any other Nationalist would say. Joseph is making further additions to change. His work so far has earned him the trust of many (see Maltatoday 7.09.08).

Can you tell me where are the changes you're seeing in the labour party? Sorry I can't see them. If you're happy with what's happening in the party, let me tell you, you're in a minority because with whom labourite or socialist you speak they believe that the labour party is still the same.

@Anthony Briffa. A leader is democratically elected to lead and Joseph is leading not imposing. The present system of the party management has given us undesired results and there’s an obvious need for a general overhaul which Joseph calls ‘terremot.’ Whatever will be the result of the restructure exercise it would not be finalised before it gets the approval of the party delegates. That is democracy at its best form my friend. If you care to debate it you are very welcome but please do not try to make your unsubstantiated statements sound unequivocal because we are all getting tired with that sort of amateurs’ spin.

Can anyone expect better comments from P.N. brainwashed mass? They are not even allowed or given the chance to have an opinion, they just wait for a hint from the first blogger and then they are off, some times even repeating each other.
This is so obvious for the observer.

PROSIT JOSEPH! 2 CAPABLE PERSONS. THEY HAVE RESPECT FROM BOTH PN-MLP GENUINE SUPPORTERS. THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT CAN BE TRUSTED. IT IS BETTER THAT JOSEPH TAKE DECISIONS INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR DELEGATES TO VOTE!!PROSIT AGAIN DR MUSCAT

MEP Louis Grech and former Minister Karmenu Vella have a huge task. However I am sure that they will deliver like they have always delivered, wherever they were in the past. It is important that they take up solid issues in relation to the statute, and let s not be afraid of recommending drastic changes. Change delivers!
Let s make sure that when this reform is over, and delegates are chosen, they are truly reflecting the real need of Labour today, "mhux nispiccaw nazghlu erba jilghabu l karti il
KAZIN"
I am sure i do not need to outline how this consultation and proposed reform should happen. Both are able gentlemen who will deliver undoubtedly!

Following the appointment of a CEO to clip Jason’s wings, the operative of this commission is the second vote of no confidence by Joseph in the party delegates. He is rendering them capable only of rubber stamping his decisions.

It could have not been a better choice! We all know what are the excellent capabilities of both Karmenu Vella and Louis Gatt. They have both shown outstanding success where ever they have administered, not only in the political spectrum but also in the private sector. Over and above they both have charming and enigmatic personalities plus they both enjoy national as well as international esteem. So thumbs up for JM this is yet another step forward for the WINNING GENERATION!!!

@c.calleja- as long as you think the gouder guy is a good journalist and you're happy with MLP in opposition- fine with me. Just enjoy it.

@ Karl Abela....so do you seriously believe that a *major* Party can be totally reformed in a mere 6 months? And anyway, there should ALWAYS be change, i.e. there shouldn't be a day when the Labour Party (or any other institution / organisation) should stop reforming itself. And please not that Labour is able to do more than one thing at a time...i.e. it can prepare for the MEP elections while reforming itself...might be that PN is too slow to do that, I don't really know and to say the truth I don't really care.
@ M. Borg. In the past Labour was criticised for having decisions taken by the Leader on his own...now you're critising Labour for doing changes through commissions etc....so Labour is changing...but you criticise it for changing...but you say it's not changing...oh this is mind-boggling...please decide on what you'll criticise Labour because you Nats are contradicting yourselves.....
@ Joseph Agius....by any chance....have you ever watched Net News (those which only 5% of Maltese watch) ? If there was ever a mediocre news service that's Net News with all their silly footage and stupid headlines and comments. No wonder that just 5% of Maltese can stand NetNews...

@ j agius. I know some of the one news journalists such as carbone and David gatt or wendy Borg. All of them obtained their degree from the uom and were lectured both by bartolo and mercieca. So ?

Oh, and just in case someone asks, yes, its important for everyone to know MLP's skills at running an organisation because that would give us any idea as to what they are capable of.

Is this the hundredth commission set up by the labour party to foresee what changes are needed to change the party? Can we have a real change?
Labour Party = commissions+commissions+commissions.
Sorry Joseph , New Leader no difference.

Thank God these people are not running the country. Six months down the line and the organisational structure is not even yet in place. They should already be drawing up the plan of attack for the next years June EU MEP elections like others are doing. These people are simply inefficent and we would be damned if they were choosen to run the country.

@c. calleja. As the MLP defeat report shows and as all floating voters argue and as all MLP moderates claim, One TV jounalists really suck. The gouder guy was one of the reasons for labour's defeat. They continue with their mediocre, amaturish, arrogant, aggressive, monotone, repetitive, 80's type of journalism which is a real turn off for the floater. Very similar to Net tv ex journalist amanda ciappara type of journalism. Unfortunately none have been trained in journalism. They should have been trained by Evarist Bartolo and the late Joe Mercieca.

It is clear that Mr. Muscat can choose the right kind of people if he is allowed to choose them himself. I urge him to do away with whoever is not helping in this renewal process wth particular reference to a much needed 'delegates' re-organisaton.
When things are left to delegates who have nothing in mind but to hold on to their status within th eparty we end up with the likes of Anglu Farrugia, Toni Abela, Jason Micallef and Alex Sciberras Trigona.
Looking forward to what Karmenu Vella will bring to the table.

@ j agius. I think one tv journalists are among the best. In my opinion labour mp's should stop issuing dozens of press releases so one news journalists are let to do their journalistic work.

Well done Joseph! Prosit MLP! New way forward! Positive changes! and the obligatory "Fejn huma il par idejn sodi?".

Prosit Joseph. A very wise choice and a very good move. Both of them know what they're doing when it comes to organisational skills. It shows that you are addressing the short-comings. Preparation for the promised earthquake is beginning to show. Unlike what the Gonz and his minions are trying to insinuate, there is no need to hurry in such matters. Il-qattusa ghaggilija friegh ghomja ghamlet. Keep it up!

Great. I have full faith in these guys to create a modern and efficient structure. Now that the party has a CEO in place i do not see any reason why the Secretary General's position should be a full time position.

If both Karmenu Vella and Louis Grech will be as effective as they were in their previous respective positions, than the MLP is in for some positive changes.......at last!

those who are waiting for the 'earthquake' see this as a good sign...so good luck Louis and Karmenu! However I do hope there would be changes in the media cause one TV and their journalists (except Miriam lol!) are so irritating, negative and a turn off to the floater!
