Update 2: 'Considerable' amount of cash stolen in hotel hold-up
(Adds hotel name, general manager's comments)
A considerable amount of cash was stolen last night when three armed and hooded men held up and bound three employees at the Mellieha Bay Hotel.
The police said the hold-up took place at around 2.30 a.m.
General manager Franz Tabone told timesofmalta.com that reception staff and a night porter had their hands bound with cable ties. One of the workers also had his feet tied.
The robbers violently pushed one of the employees, who was not injured. There were no guests in the area at the time. The haul is still being calculated. The hotel currently has full occupancy.
The police said the employees are being treated for shock.
Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna is holding an inquiry.
