The regatta has become a cultural event tied with tradition and history in Malta, says Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, Clyde Puli.

Addressing a news conference related to the programme of activities tied to the regatta, held on Jum il-Vitorja today, Mr Puli said that the government was looking for ways and means to give exposure to local sports and therefore appealed to the media to continue to convey a positive message about sport in Malta.

The president of the national festivities committee, Nazju Abela, said the districts participating in the regatta this year are Cospicua, Birżebbuġa, Senglea, Vittoriosa, Marsa, Marsamxett and Kalkara.

Melita's head of marketing, Malcolm Briffa, said the television company is committed to broadcast live sports events like the regatta. He said they have also allotted space on their channels for all local sport associations.
