Red lights ignored in Rue D'Argens
A perfect site for local wardens to make a fortune is Rue D'Argens at the Sliema Road junction. Motorists deliberately cross the red lights from all directions.
A couple of correspondents have aired their concern over this danger spot and yet nothing has been done.

Three Cheers to Mr Schembri.
The authorities failed to see the traffic lights inconveniences these last three days, since Marsascala was very busy due to the village activities and yesterday was a special day for Wied il-Ghajn - "Gieh Marsaskala". It's sll over now and priority works go to the said lights.
Let us ALL keep our beautiful Marsascala without any inconveniences and thanks to all the organisers, especially the police as law and order reigned on the other part of Marsaskala (near La Playa) where more activities were being held.
Good Luck!!!! And hope that this week we will see the full operational services of the traffic lights in question. Thank you.

To Whom it May Concern and in particular to the Police/Wardens and The Marsascala Local Council.
Please note that the traffic lights in front of Grabiel Restaurant have been partially inoperative since the last 10 days or so. Many are those drivers who would (dare?) to drive during the RED light shows. Besides, some drivers are not well educated, especially when they commit the crime and would call names to other third parties. I am sure that both the police and The Marsascala Local Council will take the necessary actions to restore the service. I would suggest that a police/warden be detailed to standby near the Marsascala terminus (near the bend) and to book the non-chalant drivers who pretent that they are THE KINGS ON OUR ROADS. Come on Mario, the clock is ticking and everyone knows that March 2009, is round the corner. Time will tell. Never again........ And to the police/wardens, bring the necessary contraventions chits with you as I am sure that you will need plenty if your presence will be a long one! Thank you and I am sure that everyone will understage what the Italians say: "LA LEGGE E' UGUALE PER TUTTI".

I know this junction & yes these light simply suffer from two problems:
1. It's becomes obvious to motorists that the light timing is awkward..so much so that many times it gives motorist to think that one of them is malfunctioning.
2. They are simply place too high up... I think who came up with where to place these light must have either a convertible or a truck of some sort...Not everyone does, take note!

Perhaps if there was a delay between one set of lights going amber and the opposing set going amber this situation might not arise. It seems that, as the lights are set back from the junction, it is normal for cars moving on green lights to meet cars who passed their lights, also on green. This is not the only junction that operates like this. The one coming down from San Gwan to the Regional Road and Balluta Bay also has lights that turn amber at the same time for opposing directions. A simple time delay could solve most of the problems, except for the idiots who proceed on red!! For them there is no solution, except heavy fines.

The junction you mention is an absolute disgrace.
Would it be too much to fix up a camera to the lights system, like we have speed cameras in various locations? I'm sure the revenue raised would more than pay for the installation.
Running a red light is very dangerous, it's a seriously unsafe and reckless piece of driving. People don't speed where there are speed cameras, fines are the only language the motorist understands.
