The Koleos has become the 10th Renault to obtain the maximum score of five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.

The Koleos is a versatile crossover that Renault says brings occupants the same peace of mind in the city, on the open road and highway, and off road. It does this notably through its Alliance-developed four-wheel drive system, which boosts active safety by correcting loss in grip and redistributing torque between the front and rear axles ahead of electronic stability control activation.

The Koleos scored 33 out of 37 in adult protection tests, earning five stars. It obtained four out of five stars in child protection and two out of four in pedestrian protection.

Renault's approach for all its vehicles is based on real-life safety. The brand focuses on developing the most efficient technologies to 'prevent, correct and protect' and also on raising the awareness of road users.

Koleos benefits from Renault's longstanding work in real-life accident analysis. In terms of passive safety, its body structure features programmed crumple zones at the front and the back. The cabin was designed as a real survival cell for passengers in the event of an accident. The Koleos features a comprehensive range of equipment for passenger protection, including six airbags (including two front), seatbelts with force limiters in the front and rear side seats and pretensioners in the front seats, along with Isofix anchor points for attaching child seats in the rear side seats. The headrests have a carefully worked ergonomic design that offers maximum protection against whiplash in the event of rear impact.

On the active safety front, the Koleos has a stiff chassis and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency brake assist (EBA) fitted as standard to assist drivers in emergency braking.

Over the years, Renault has established itself as a benchmark in automotive safety, as reflected in the results obtained in press rankings.

The Laguna II obtained five stars in 2001 and 2003, the first car ever to obtain the score. Other five-star winners include the Vel Satis in 2002 and 2005, the Espace IV in 2003, the Clio III in 2005, and the new Laguna in 2007. In 2002, the Mégane II became the first M1 segment vehicle to obtain five stars. The Scénic II became the first compact MPV to obtain five stars in 2003, the Modus, the first in its category in 2004, and the Mégane II Coupé Cabriolet the first vehicle in its category in 2004. Renault claims it is the only manufacturer to have obtained the five-star maximum ten times.

Renault's safety policy goes beyond technical aspects and the marquee says raising awareness of road users is also a priority for the group. As a good-citizen company, Renault has made commitments to awareness-raising and educational programs through a number of national and international initiatives to improve the behavior of road users. These actions include the Global Road Safety Initiative and the international Safety for All programme.
