Thirty finalists will be vying for the press awards being organised by the Malta Institute of Journalists in November.

Several journalists and contributors to The Times and The Sunday Times are among the finalists of the 18th edition of the awards, which saw submissions from 54 individuals.

The nominees are: Print journalism: Ariadne Massa; Owen Galea; Brandon Pisani. Features journalism: Ariadne Massa; Julia Farrugia; Brandon Pisani. Photography journalism: Matthew Mirabelli; Chris Sant Fournier; Michael Ellul.

Travel journalism: Alan Deidun; Alvin Scicluna; Xarabank Team. Broadcast journalism - script: Reno Bugeja; Lourdes Pullicino; Xarabank team. Broadcast journalism - film: Bondi+ team; Clayton Tanti; Clare Muscat; Xarabank team. Radio journalism: Reno Bugeja.

Sports journalism: Kevin Azzopardi; Teddy Borg; Events Services. Sports photography: Matthew Mirabelli; Darrin Zammit Lupi. E-journalism: Paul Cachia; Carmelina Grech; Robert Micallef. Cultural journalism: Lino Bugeja; CVC Communications; Victor Vella.

Awards will also be presented for the Maltese language in journalism, and the 10th edition of the Gold Award will recognise an individual who has made a significant contribution to journalism along the years.

The jury will be preparing a detailed report on the submissions, which will be presented on the night. The event will be held on November 7.
