No one was injured in a fire at a farm in Katakombi Street, Naxxar last night, the police said.

They said that bales of hay, a tent and animal fodder had, for some reason, caught fire. Damages were also caused to a nearby vehicle.

The fire was put out by the Civil Protection fire fighters and Enemalta workers removed other dangers.

An inquiry is being led by Magistrate Edwina Grima.

The cause of this fire was from a UFO believe it or not.
A Family from Sliema were on their roof at around 9.15pm last Saturday and they saw 3 unidentified flying objects in the night sky coming from a northwesterly direction.
All UFOs had white lights on and were the typical saucer shaped. One of them switched the lights from white to red and started descending towards the Naxxar area. Since this family lives in a high building they could see quite a distance. They could not make out the exact spot this third UFO landed but soon afterwards they heard about this mysterious fire breaking out.
In all probabilities this must be the first fire caused by an extraterrestrial and not Maltese vandals :)

I happened to be in Bahar ic-Caghaq yesterday, a bbq in one of the apartments right next door to the Coastline Hotel and very near to the farm. Halfway through the bbq we all saw a lampost; situated very near to the farm; short circuiting and sparking. It could easily have started the fire, especially since Saturday night was a bit breezy.

My cousin reported this lampost twice in 15 minutes so that the relevant engineers/technicians could be sent on site to check it out and possibly repair the fault. The answer? "We will send someone later on to have a look at it".

Oh yes, one tiny detail - the phone call was made at about 23:00.

This is the third farm 'that caught fire', few months ago, one in the south and with this Naxxar one, the second in the north. Can we speculate on an arsinist hand? or else>>>>

I was at the hotel mentioned by Mr J Zammit and witnessed the fire going up. I can safely say that the fire couldn't possibly have been caused by fireworks. The farm is situated tens of metres from the hotel and is quite far from the Naxxar mainland and no fireworks were going up at the time as to my knowledge.

And humidity was at a staggering 70% for the previous couple of days. Spontanious combustion and 'Game Over' indeed!

@reuben zammit - you're really speculating there - saw the fire, it was about 50mtrs away from coastline hotel - don't even think there were any fireworks in naxxar actually

Now let's see... just speculating here... Naxxar feast, Naxxar farm, fireworks and animal fodder don't really go well together.
