Charged with assaulting 70-year-old man

A 20-year-old man from Attard was yesterday remanded in custody after being charged with assaulting a 70-year-old man during the public transport strike in July.

Paul Borg was also charged with causing damage to the man's Toyota vehicle, breaching the public peace and forming part of a group of 10 or more with the intent of committing a crime.

He pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Edwina Grima. Inspector James Grech prosecuted.

If guilty the 20 year old should get jail and a hefty fine, and not a 'slap on the wrist' suspended sentence.

Beating up an old man 50 years his senior, is totally unacceptable in any civilised country - I hope Maltese justice is effective in this case.
