After noting all the debate about strengthening marriage and the family and on the potential introduction of divorce, we had the impression that something concrete was being concocted by the government and the Church who together take care of us citizens.
Unfortunately, our impression of something being done about these serious issues vanished in thin air when we read the article by Archbishop Paul Cremona (The Sunday Times, August 24). Shouldn't the issues he raised already be on the drawing board of the government and the Church together, with their top wise men putting their heads together urgently to include Family Studies in the curriculum from as early as the first year of secondary education?
It is a pity that so much of our young people's precious time is wasted on subjects which are of no use in their life. The most important 'career' in their life (at least the majority) will be spent building and holding together a family. It is, after all, is the most important nucleus of any society.
Please dear Prime Minister and Archbishop, stop dragging your feet and do something now. Pick your best people and get them to work together. Give family studies top priority and start churning out teachers for this subject from the University as soon as possible. It will solve most of the problems marriage and the family are facing. Divorce won't.
