Xagħra Scout Group's first camping trip

The parking area at Ramla Bay was home to 18 Leaders, six Scouts and 19 Cub Scouts last month. This was the first camping experience for the newly formed Xagħra Scout Group, who, helped by the more experienced Victoria Scouts, namely ASL David Grech, organised four jam-packed days.

At dawn, all leaders met at the camp site to set up tents before the scorching heat set in. The camps were acquired from different sources, one gratefully donated by writer Charles Coyne and his wife. By 10 a.m. everything was set and, after some rest, activities kicked off. Soon the day drew to an end and those responsible for night watch took their place under the marquée.

The arrival of the Cub Scouts kept leaders busy. Water games were held, followed by beach cleaning in conjunction with Gaia Foundation. In the evening, an open-to-all fund-raising barbecue was organised around a camp fire. With lights out, all Cubs gathered in their tents to gain energy for the following day.

Each participant fondly remembers Friday morning as all ended up caked with mud after a game.

More water games followed before Mass celebrated by AGSL Fr Gauci. A Scavenger hunt closed the activities for the day. After dinner, all Cubs reluctantly left the campsite.

Leaders and Scouts helped clean the camp site and the parking area looked spotless once again.
