Don Bosco Summer Club ends with special activities

The Don Bosco Summer Club, organised by the Don Bosco Oratory of Victoria, came to an end last week with various special activities. They included a children's Mass celebrated by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, a show of dance, drama and song in Victoria and Marsalforn, a barbecue at St Augustine's Square, Victoria, a crafts exhibition by children, a film show and an outing to Ramla Bay.

Over 280 children attend regularly. About 60 volunteers, mostly youngsters, took care of the children and animated the sessions.

A typical day at the summer club starts with Mass in the oratory chapel, followed by lessons in crafts, cooking, ganutell, dance, drama, story-telling, painting, crib-building, stamp-collecting, sewing and arkett. Sports and other fun games are also included.

A number of outings to Malta and other places in Gozo were also organised. Children also participated in various interactive activities by guest groups focusing on heritage, environment, nutrition, self-defence, drug and alcohol prevention and medical awareness.

The summer club's leaders and animators are soon off to Italy to participate in the EU Youth in Action Programme. This exchange visit will enhance the formation of youths towards becoming an asset to society through similar initiatives.
